First Coat Application
Base and scratch coats done right
The first coat is the one nobody sees and everything depends on. We apply base and scratch coats over blueboard, masonry, and wire lath — worked into the surface for a mechanical bond, brought out to a consistent thickness, and scratched or floated so the finish coat has something to grip.
First Coat Application is available for both residential and commercial customers. From single rooms in a family home to full office, retail, and multi-unit builds, we bring the same crew, the same materials, and the same finish standard to every job.
Our Process
Prepare
The substrate is cleaned, dampened or bonded as needed so the coat adheres properly.
Set Grounds
Beads and screeds are set so the coat comes out to an even, true thickness.
Apply
The base coat is worked on firmly, filled out, and rodded flat between the grounds.
Scratch & Cure
The surface is scratched for key and allowed to cure before the finish coat goes on.
